Why I shoot film

There is something about film photos that just speak to me. They are so raw, beautiful, magical and real. In a world where AI is becoming increasingly familiar, going back to shooting analogue in a world full of modern, digital technology is something more unique and special.

I have always had a passion for shooting film. Over the years I’ve gathered a small collection of film camera’s ranging from the 1950s up to the more modern 90s film cameras. Each are so unique and so different and provide a completely different looking image. It was definitely my hope that Film would make a comeback into today’s modern society and with more and more enquiries for weddings shot on analogue film I have upgraded all my film gear, honed my skills and am super excited to offer film to my couples! (in fact I encourage it).

While I strongly suggest capturing your wedding day with a mix of film and digital (reduces risk, digital is faster and can shoot in more low light conditions i.e receptions) I am more than happy to shoot an entire wedding in film if it is what my couples desire.

There are two types of film cameras I shoot with
- 35mm film (This is a more common type of film, you can shoot faster and more photos per roll with this type of film. The images produced tend to be more grainy.
-120mm film, commonly referred to as ‘medium format’. I shoot with a Mamiya 645 medium format camera which produces a sharper and more higher quality photos over the 35mm (which is why I use this for Bridal portraits).
I find shooting with both types of films offers me variability, speed and quality allowing me to produce the perfect wedding gallery :)
